"Coach V", as he is known to hundreds of former players and campers, got his start in coaching thanks to Hoop Historian John Mayberry who hired him to work the Bill Walton Basketball Camp in 1980.  Since then his many travels have taken him through a whirlwind tour of basketball courts across the region spanning through four decades.  Vegso began his professional career in 1976 when he was hired by Cal State Fullerton University as an assistant in the Media Relations Department.  At Fullerton, Vern became the school's Sports Marketing Director, and later served as an assistant in the basketball program.  Vegso was the Director of Basketball Operations at Bakersfield College, when the team won the 1989 team's California Community Men's Basketball Championship.  In 1991, Coach V was appointed assistant coach in charge of shooting and special statistics for the Cleveland Cavaliers entry in the Southern California Pro Summer League held at Loyola Marymount.   Vegso continued his coaching career in 2010 as an assistant coach at West Hills College in Coalinga, California.  Vern has been the Co-Director of the Pro Tech Camps in Phoenix, has been an On-Floor Director of the J.R. Robinson Intensive Basketball Camps, and has coached at the prestigious Five-Star Basketball Camp for the last five years.  For more than 30 years, Coach Vegso has helped many young student-athletes realize a multitude of their academic, personal and professional goals.  Vegso is currently the Director of Development for Moorpark College Athletics in California.  Vern was the winner of the 20234 Hoop Historians Hoop Hysteria Contest.
