BRUCE ZIEMER

May 3, 1952 - August 14, 2020
Elected to the Hoop Historians as a Charter Member:  1999

 

Bruce served as a head librarian at the Chicago Public Library for many years.  Ziemer began  his romance with sports working as an Andy Frain Usher at Chicago's Wrigley Field during the Cubs pennant runs of the late 1960's.  A graduate of the University of Illinois and the University of Kentucky, Bruce was a devout fan of both team’s programs.  Among his fondest Final Four memories include the Kentucky Wildcats national championship victories in 1996 & 1998.  Bruce has always found time for sports, as he and his wife Janice enjoyed their Arizona honeymoon with 11 spring training and three NBA games.  Among Bruce's interests were Victorian Literature and Scottish Folk Music, as he owned over 3,000 books and an extensive CD collection.  Among the sporting events he attended include the NASL Soccer Bowl in 1981; the soccer World Cup in 1994 and the Masters Golf Tournament in 2007.  Bruce served on the Hoop Historians Board of Directors from 2009 to 2019.
