 Meet the Hoop Historians

 

Joe Flaherty was a physical education teacher who was involved in both men's and women's college basketball for three decades.  Joe worked the scorer's table at both DePaul and Marquette Universities -- including  26 seasons with the Blue Demons game day staff as the scoreboard operator at the Allstate Arena.  Flaherty attended seven Final Fours in 1987, 1989, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1997 and 2003.  He worked NCAA Men's Tournament games as scoreboard operator at Chicago in 1993 and 2005; at Milwaukee in 1996 and 1999; and for Women's Tournament games in 1996 and 2006 in Chicago.  Considered to be an "All-Star type of guy", Joe  attended professional all-star games in baseball, basketball and hockey, seeing the MLB All-Star Game in 1983, 1994, 1996, 1997, 2003; the NBA All-Star Game in 1989; the NHL All-Star Game in 1991; and the Women's Final Four in 1997.
