Surl is the founder and co-owner of
Kim Tours and Travel, which has provided sports travel packages for University
of Southern California football and for the Rose Bowl, since the company began
in 1953. Affectionately known as "Mister Rose Bowl" Surl has moved
hundreds of thousands of spectators to and from "the Granddaddy of them all".
Along with his wife, Dorothy, the couple has been officially recognized as "The
First Family" of the Hoop Historians. Surl is a World War II veteran
serving as Navigator (LT) B-17 in the 92nd Bomb Group - 8th Air Force in England
during 1944-45. Surl has attended 59 consecutive Rose Bowls, 37 Super Bowls and 29
Final Fours.
