Steve is the former head boys basketball coach at Savanna High School in Anaheim, California.  His Rebels team won three straight Orange County League championships in 2006, 2007 and 2008.  Those 2007 and 2008 squads made back-to-back trips to the Southern California Division III-AA state quarterfinals.  Bennett's teams won a total of five league titles from 2002 to 2008.  Steve retired from active coaching after the 2008 season to spend more time with his family.  He also coached at Katella High School in Anaheim before becoming the head mentor at Savanna.
