If there's a college basketball game
nearby, you can probably find Steve Atkins in attendance. Steve is a
ten-year basketball season ticket holder at Northwestern University. Along
with following the Wildcats, Steve has attended at least one leg of the NCAA
tournament for every year since 1986. Atkins has attended 24 Final Fours
and 21 first and second round sites, completing the double by going to both
tournaments in the same year 19 different times. His March Madness travels
have taken him to 20 different states and the District of Columbia.
Closing in on his 200th NCAA Tournament game, Steve has attended 198 post-season
contests. In addition to being a true fan of the game, Atkins is also a
licensed high school basketball official. When the hoop season takes a
hiatus, Steve has completed five North Shore Classic Century bike rides --
a 100 mile event near Lake Michigan, which takes riders through Illinois and
Wisconsin as they travel through some of the area's most elegant communities.
