Kevin has been involved in basketball for his entire life. Kevin’s
dad, John, was Sports Information Director at DePaul University during the
fifties, sixties and seventies. Kevin started selling programs there at age
eight and attended Ray Meyer’s Basketball Camp in the sixties. While
in high school, Kevin worked on the Stat Crew at DePaul and learned much
about the importance of statistics in basketball. While attending the
university as a student basketball manager, McCann became the school’s
official timer – a position he has remained in for the last 38 years.
Kevin was also a basketball official for many years before becoming
principal at Jamieson School in 1991. Kevin has attended 16 Men’s’ Final Fours
and took in his first ever Women’s’ Final Four in 2007 with his three
daughters. For his accomplishments to the game, McCann was
inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in
2007 as a Friend of Basketball.
