A fixture at the Final Four that spans five decades, Benninger was the captain of the University of Louisville Stat Crew Team which worked every NCAA Championship since 1969. A 1957 graduate of U of L, Al returned to his alma mater and during his 45-year span working for the Cardinals, Al missed only five basketball games. Benninger also worked as statistician for Louisville football since 1961, ABA basketball for the Kentucky Colonels, 13 consecutive NCAA Division II Championships and nine Orange Bowls. Besides having the best seat in the house for athletic events, Al likes to participate as well, as he was a Senior Olympic Champion winning the Golden 100 and 200 Meter Dashes. Benninger started playing slow-pitch softball in 1954 and continues to play today and is the commissioner of the Louisville Senior Softball League. Elected to the Hoop Historians as an Honorary Member: April, 2010
